The Project and Production Manager will be specifically responsible for the delivery of a Southern Guild Special Project. They will play a vital part in ensuring that the standard of excellence established by the gallery is upheld. The position requires involvement with all aspects of production of works and projects that have been commissioned by the client for this Special Project. The Project and Production Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with artists to produce artworks, and will undertake a complex role of liaison, coordination, trouble-shooting and quality control.

Job Description:
  • Responsible for overall project management and delivery of Southern Guild’s M1 Project.
  • Working closely with Southern Guild Team to determine exact details and requirements for every object that is produced or sourced for M1 Project.
  • Work with artists/manufacturers/suppliers to coordinate design development work and to support product development.
  • Work with artists/suppliers/manufactures to produce commissioned artworks according to Client specifications.
  • Source and work in collaboration with engineers to develop structural design aspects of commissioned projects.
  • Work with engineers to ensure that all projects are structurally compliant and have engineering sign off.
  • Oversee construction and architecture of projects, as required.
  • Carry out new manufacturer & supplier research and outreach.
  • Liaise with suppliers, artists & sub-contractors on requesting and receiving quotes, managing project deadlines and providing feedback to design and operations teams.
  • Schedule and minute design development meetings and discussions. Draft timelines for production of work.
  • Coordinate with the Design Team to generate drawings where necessary, check drawings before processing and issue to artists and suppliers for manufacture.
  • Action new orders: issuing purchase orders, requesting proformas, tax invoices + managing payment schedules with finance department.
  • Oversee production with a specific focus on timelines, construction, quality and finishes.
  • Carry out quality control and troubleshooting of commissioned projects.
  • Prepare client presentations and costing proposals.
  • Generate care instructions, based on artist and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Manage production budgets, artwork pricing and record keeping for pricing and accounting procedures.
  • Draft timelines for production of work.
  • Oversee production with a specific focus on timelines.
  • Work with the Operations and Logistics Teams to manage production timeline calendars & collection and delivery associated with production.
  • Project & timeline management of M1 project, including oversight of all project aspects (including but not limited to timelines for: production, shipping, installation).
Position requirements:
  • Project management experience is essential.
  • Interior design or architectural and technical experience.
  • Strong admin skills and computer literacy, specifically in Word and Excel.
  • Experience of the creative and manufacturing industries and exposure to a wide range of processes such as upholstery, carpentry, bronze casting, 3D printing etc.
  • An excellent eye, wide knowledge of materials and processes and strong design sensibility.
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to work well in a team and to collaborate with people from different walks of life.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task and work under pressure.
  • A flexible and enthusiastic attitude, with nimble and adaptive thinking.
  • Independent working methods requiring decision-making, responsibility and accountability.
  • Authentic interest and dedicated research - resulting in a deep understanding of all artists represented by the gallery and their practices.
  • Strict adherence to structures around privacy of information and confidentiality.
  • Big picture thinking with an understanding of the overall brand identities and goals.
  • Layout skills preferable including software such as: Rhino / InDesign.
