Vortex Design Solutions, a progressive Commercial Interior Design company based in Cape Town seeks an objective mature person to be their Senior Interior Designer and Team Leader. 
Minimum Requirements:
  • No criminal record
  • Recognized Interior Design or Architectural Degree (B Tech or the equivalent)
  • 7 years or more experience in commercial & retail interior design and management
  • Driver's license & own reliable vehicle
  • Smartphone
  • Able to travel in and around South Africa
  • Excellent command of the English language (written & oral)
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Excellent working knowledge of SketchUp
  • Excellent working knowledge of PhotoShop
  • Excellent working knowledge of joinery & standard building practices
  • Excellent presentation and project management skills.

Key Performance Areas & Job Description:
  • To manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from small to large-sized projects of basic to complex scope with minimal supervision including full architectural solutions in coordination with all relevant building 3rd parties, your team and the Company Leaders
  • High-quality project design deliverables in both FF&E and construction documents
  • Working on any/all phases of development including Pre-Design Survey and Discovery process, Conceptual Design, Interior Design Development, Processing of 3rd party Engineering and Compliance Documentation, Construction Documents, Construction Administration and Project management
  • Continual, close collaboration with the internal office team, suppliers and contractors & client
  • The management of a small team of people.
Client Liaison:
  • Maintaining client and company relationship
  • Compilation and issuing of brief and minutes
  • Client meetings: Space plan, estimated budget, concept, sample FF & E, timeline
  • Manage client expectations, needs, variations & project commitments
  • Sign off the project with the client
  • Obtain client testimonial
  • AS-Built Drawings.
Design (in association with project team):
  • Accommodation schedule
  • Space planning including "bubble" spacing
  • Conceptual design & mood boards
  • Technical drawing pack – 2D’s, Elevations, Joinery
  • Prepare & distribute all drawings & correspondence/ communications for the required municipal approval
  • FF&E schedules and procurement
  • Start, delegate and oversee all relevant drawing registers, schedules & other file duties pertaining to the relevant project
  • Tender compilation on behalf of clients for costing exercises.
Project Management (in association with project team):
  • Oversee, manage & work within project timelines & project flow within the office
  • Brief project manager timeously
  • Compile scope of work
  • Brief your team, draw up reporting structure for the onsite project and plan all printing required for meetings
  • Manage the project timeline and client’s expectations in relation to the timeline
  • Site survey and contact list creation
  • Liaise, coordinate & manage subcontractors, expectations, project work commitments
  • Brief existing build engineers and survey team
  • Contractor briefing: design & final finishes
  • Contractor briefing: technical implementation, timeline, client downtime/ etiquette
  • Finalize all H &S (VDS & Sub-contract)
  • Revise: scope of work and contact list
  • Onsite overview of projects
  • Oversee: project quotes & communication
  • Oversee: council submission; timeline
  • Oversee: the setup of the site office, the establishment of landlord relationships with relevant parties, the access to the site (biometrics, loos, H&S and PPE)
  • Oversee: the commencement of the site build
  • Oversee: council certificate and the issuing of the COC’s
  • Oversee and inspect the quality (onsite and in-office)
  • Oversee: final project snag list
  • Project site staging and photo-taking on completion.
Management/ Team Leadership:
  • Apply and ensure yourself and your team are adhering to Company policies, procedures, SOP’s and HR processes and systems
  • Conduct daily team huddle meetings
  • Brief your design and project management team on projects and client’s expectations
  • Ensure consistency and adherence with the Company Disciplinary Procedure
  • Check staff daily project reports
  • Check that projects are running according to their timeline
  • Weekly: Check staff “daily task” forms
  • Weekly: Issue staff instructions via Wrike
  • Weekly: Staff meetings; clarifying project scope
  • Weekly: Client meetings; clarifying project scope.
General Administration:
  • Taking of minutes as per the Company specified standard & method
  • General assistance with every day running of the office & his/her role therewith
  • Filing; hardcopy, server and Wrike.
Contract: Permanent with a 3 month probation period
