We are looking to appoint an experienced and creative Independent Retail Showroom Designer to assist with the ongoing enhancement and development of our retail showroom environments. The role will focus on: Small showroom upgrades and refresh projects New showroom designs and renovations Space planning and customer journey optimization Product merchandising and display concepts Shared coordination with suppliers, installers, and contractors This role requires a designer who understands premium retail environments, brand consistency, and commercial functionality, with the ability to translate ideas into inspiring customer-focused spaces. Travel will be required. Key Responsibilities Showroom Renovations & Upgrades Design and layouts for showroom renovations and refresh projects Identify opportunities to modernize and improve existing showroom environments Recommend updated finishes, layouts, lighting, signage, and merchandising solutions Ensure all renovations align with brand CI and retail standards New Store Design & Fit-Outs Develop new showroom concepts from initial planning Prepare layout plans, mood boards, finishes schedules, and design presentations Assist with customer flow planning and optimal product zoning Collaborate with internal stakeholders on design direction and operational requirements Space Planning & Visual Merchandising Create inspiring retail displays that showcase products effectively Design feature areas for tiles, bathrooms, kitchens, and lifestyle spaces Ensure showroom displays remain trend-forward, functional, and commercially impactful Supplier & Contractor Coordination Liaise with contractors, shopfitters, electricians, signage suppliers, and installers Assist with sourcing finishes, fixtures, fittings, and display materials Conduct site visits and oversee design implementation where required Project Management Manage project timelines and deliverables Provide accurate project costing guidance where applicable Ensure projects are completed within agreed budgets and deadlines Minimum Requirements Qualification in Interior Design, Retail Design, Architecture, or related field Proven experience in retail showroom or commercial interior design Strong portfolio of completed retail or showroom projects Experience in renovations and fit-out coordination Proficient in design software such as: AutoCAD SketchUp Revit (advantageous) Adobe Creative Suite Key Skills & Attributes Strong creative and conceptual ability Excellent space planning skills Commercial and customer-focused mindset Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects Strong attention to detail Excellent communication and presentation skills Strong understanding of retail trends, materials, lighting, and finishes Ability to interpret and execute brand standards Scope of Work Expected The appointed designer may be required to assist with: Store refresh concepts Bathroom and kitchen display redesigns Tile display planning Lighting and signage recommendations Consultation area upgrades Customer experience improvements New showroom layout concepts Seasonal or campaign display installations Deliverables The successful candidate should be able to provide: Conceptual presentations Mood boards 2D and 3D layouts/renderings Technical drawings and shop fitting packs Finishes and fittings schedules Site assessment reports Project implementation guidance Ideal Candidate We are looking for a designer who: Has a passion for premium retail environments Understands customer experience and lifestyle retail Can balance creativity with practicality Is highly organized and deadline-driven Can work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders Brings innovative and fresh thinking to showroom design Applicants should submit: • Updated CV • Portfolio of relevant retail/showroom projects • References • Expected rate structure/project fees (Retainer based) • Availability and operating location   Please click on the button below to submit your brief motivation cover email and CV to Nicole Russell       Enquiries • info@interiorplacements.co.za   By sending Italtile your CV and motivation, you will be providing Italtile with personal information for the purpose of investigating whether you could be considered for an interview.
